Marcus Garcia

Marcus Garcia (he/him/his) is a first generation doctoral student in the Sociology department at the University of Connecticut, where he also completed his Masters Degree in Sociology. He received his Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Rhetoric from Binghamton University.

His research interests range from gender & sexuality and race & ethnicity to media and communication technologies. He is particularly interested in how fans and their communities engage with the things they idolize, and with each other, to determine who has access to pleasure and whose pleasure society wants to destroy.

He is currently working on his dissertation, which uses ethnographic methods like interviewing and observing content creators, and fans, of online gaming and pornography to analyze where and how pleasure exists on digital platforms and society in general.
